It’s raining in San Diego this Sunday, and we welcome it. It’s not a sprinkle, it’s regular old-fashioned rain!
As usual, you get to know people by sharing stories. For me, it works like keywords. My natural perspective works through connections. I am willing to bet yours does too. So someone says a word and it connects to something you know, or have experienced. Something about you.
In this instance the word was “guitar.” A filmmaker I spoke with the other night mentioned he plays guitar.
Suddenly, I was sharing the story of my youth and my dad. He’s famed as a luthier around the world. Not a celebrity, much in the way that when you think about a movie you only think about actors and directors. Sometimes, the writer(s).
However, there are many famed artists, musicians, who’ve tasked my dad to fix their soul mates: their guitars. I’ll share one story of how I found out about a very famous guitarist who had his guitar fixed by my dad. Funny thing is that I only found out through someone else, on a film set.
When I shared the story with a new friend, who shot a movie with his smartphone camera, he suggested I share it in my podcast. I told him that during my podcast, SBP Podcast Mobile Filmmaking, I only share tidbits about myself while discussing storytelling and filmmaking with my guests.
I’m going to share the story with you here, because today the rain reminded me of rainy days in our house when I was a teenager on a typical Sunday morning.
