A Smartphone Film Advocate
Connecting voices of people around the world through the language of film.
I spent many years quietly helping people who were referred to me by colleagues and “mentors” alike. I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had in my career since I changed my major in college from paralegal to media communications, because that was a game-changer from where my life seemed to be heading to where I am today.
I am a bit nervous about publicly sharing my personal story, but people keep telling me they want to know more about my own story. So here it goes…
I entered college as an adventure.
I had always been told art was not “work” I would be paid for to earn a living. I had been discouraged, since my later childhood, to believe I could be an artist. By the time I was a junior in high school, I was already lost, as far as what my future looked like.
I realize that moving from school to school, sometimes in different countries, did not do me any favors. I never developed a relationship with school career counselors in the sense that most students who spend all their years in the same school do. The counselors I spoke to had no real “investment” in my success because my time there was so short-lived. At least, that was my perception.
When I decided to attend college it was a bit of an experiment to find myself. I had friends who attended SDSU and they inspired me.
