The power of a story is two-fold. First, your story needs to be told. Second, it needs to connect with the people it reaches.
The best stories are told through film, but not everyone is a filmmaker. However, that doesn’t mean not everyone can be a filmmaker.
You are the best person to tell your story
I’ve spoken to many people in over 14 and half years who commonly share how liberating it is to make their films without the distraction and limitations of complex camera equipment and large crews on set. Not to mention the responsibility of meeting the expectations of their funders.
While you were busy doing things over the last decade, a wonderful thing happened. Smartphone cameras evolved and more people are making films using them. And as of last year, there are more feature films shot with smartphone cameras (not all iPhones, either) that are streaming on Amazon Prime, Tubi, and other streaming platforms. Those films were made by indie filmmakers, they are not Hollywood filmmakers, like the ones who also made films using iPhones, Steven Soderbergh, for example.
Good stories matter and can change the world
A movie can change a life. The film and video industry is intimidating. Bit with its exclusivity in numbers, it’s now evolving. Independent filmmakers have turned to their smartphone cameras, not just to get a shot but an entire film.
