Every time it comes to mind I feel a little sad. It’s something I directed in college. I am blanking on the name of the class, specifically, but I think it was the last course in my major. We formed groups of three and set out to produce a film.
During my college days, The Blair Witch Project had been mentioned in some of my courses in film and video. So when our group got together, we discussed it as we brainstormed ideas.
Catharine was from France. Scott was from northern California. I met Scott in another class and he decided to try video production and I think he was hooked after the class.
While I was in college I worked for a video production company, so they naturally wanted me to be in charge. I told them we all had to be in charge and contribute. They finally stopped insisting when I agreed to “at least” write and direct it.
All of us enjoyed urban legends and with The Blair Witch Project in mind, we set out to make a documentary. It was also my favorite form of filmmaking. We agreed it would require less work due to narrative films requiring actors and film sets. We had the entire semester to complete our project.
We set out to make the documentary about urban legends in San Diego. We went to Old Town San Diego, home of the Whaley House.
We first went to a small book/souvenir shop in Old Town. We found a book that had “haunted” locations around San Diego. The county of San Diego is huge, by the way.
